EVERY ONE Myanmar (Introduction)

Save The Children - Every One Myanmar

All of us dream of a bright future for our children. We want them to grow healthy and educated, to be the best of what they can be.

But illnesses and deaths sap these children's potential early in their lives, oftentimes during the first 28 days after birth. Most of these deaths are caused by premature birth, low birth weight, and infections. For children who survive their first month, the killer diseases of diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria are likely to claim their lives.

UNICEF's State of the World's Children 2009 reports that 92,000 children under five years die each year in Myanmar. These deaths can be prevented through simple, low cost measures. These include: oral rehydration solution for diarrhea, antibiotics for pneumonia and bednets as well as drugs against malaria. For newborn children exclusive breast feeding is a vital life saving intervention.
